Preparing to send the kids back to school (virtually)? Well, let’s make it exciting! No matter the format – heading back to school after the summer break is kind of a big deal and one that requires some prep.

If you are trying to welcome your kids back to their in-home classroom for the new school year, here are some ideas you can use to spice it up a bit!

Welcome Back to School!

Make it a Celebration!

Add a fun back-to-school banner to the workspace. Maybe even consider setting up a classroom photography backdrop for some DIY back-to-school photos. And don’t forget your photo booth props! You can also decorate desks with celebratory school-themed balloons

There are so many great ways to add some warm and welcoming fun to your child’s workspace to welcome them back into the virtual classroom. And I highly recommend doing so to set the tone for a really great school year.

Remind Them of the Rules

When working from home (even as an adult), it can be difficult to stay focused. But it is important to have some ground rules in place – especially in a virtual learning format.

Outline some rules for your classroom. You can do this by adding a colorful Class Rules Poster to your walls or even have a classroom rules coloring sheet waiting at their desk.

Post the Daily Schedule

You can use a daily schedule pocket chart for younger children. Or even have a printed schedule framed and placed on a wall nearby so that everyone is aware of the flow of the day. This will help make it easier to get back into the routine.

Treat the Kids to a Welcome Gift

You can treat your virtual students to a little treat on the first day of school. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. It can be as simple as one of these Happy Journals from Amazon. It’s just another way to boost their excitement for the new school year even if they aren’t actually going into a building.

Or maybe you introduce a new reward system and surprise them with a Reward Punch Card on the first day of school. This is another really great way to increase their enthusiasm for their remote learning experience.

Hopefully, these virtual back-to-school classroom ideas boost the morale a bit as your students dive back into remote learning. Please feel free to share some of your own tips in the comments below!
