Detroit Zoo
8450 W 10 Mile Rd, Royal Oak, MI 48067
Lions, and tigers, and bears, OH MY! The Detroit Zoo has a wide variety of exhibits that the children absolutely love. When visiting Southeast Michigan, the Detroit Zoo should definitely be on your bucket list. And guess what?? The Detroit Zoo is actually open throughout the winter! And if you come around the holidays, you may be able to catch their Wild Lights and photos with Santa.
There is still plenty of fun to be had at Michigan zoos in the winter.
Sea Life Michigan Aquarium
4316 Baldwin Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326
Aquariums are a really fun, and educational, attraction for children of all ages. From interactive touch pools to shipwreck exhibits, the Sea Life Michigan Aquarium definitely does not disappoint. And with it being indoors, your family can stay nice and warm with this activity.
Legoland Discovery Center
4240 Baldwin Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326
Visiting the Sea Life Aquarium at Great Lakes Crossing? If so, you might as well make a stop at Legoland Discovery Center as well. This fun family-friendly attraction is designed specifically for ages 3 to 10, but lego-lovers of all ages would have a blast here.
Greenfield Village
20900 Oakwood Blvd, at The Henry Ford, Dearborn, MI 48124-4088
What better place to learn about American traditions, and the development of our society, than at good ol’ Greenfield Village. This is a blast to the pass that the entire family can enjoy through hands-on fun, museums, and other goodies. In December, you can get in the holiday spirit with their Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village event.
Detroit Institute of Arts
5200 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48202
Speaking of museums, while you’re in town, I highly recommend adding the DIA to your itinerary. Currently advanced reservations are required for the museum, so make sure you plan in advance. But this museum is absolutely stunning and features stunning artwork. Definitely a must-visit for families.
Ice Skating at Campus Martius Park
800 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48226
Nothing says “Hello winter” like ice skating outdoors! So while you’re in town, you will definitely want to stop by Campus Martius Park to enjoy some ice skating along with many other holiday festivities.
But wait! There’s more…..
I also highly recommend checking out a show at one of the local theaters while you’re in town and spending some time hanging out in Downtown Detroit where you’ll find tons of holiday and wintery fun for the family! And don’t forget to stop by and support some of our local restaurants and shops while you’re in town.
