I’ll admit it. Becoming a blogger has been one of the best decisions I’ve made yet. I know many bloggers that feel the same way. For many busy Moms like myself, learning how to start a blog and make money from it is a dream come true. It can be quite a bit of work, but it can also be so very rewarding.
If you have been dreaming of starting a blog and turning it into an actual business, you are in the right spot. In this article, we will be discussing the steps that you (yes, YOU) can take to finally make your blogging dreams a reality. So let’s get to it.

It is important to note that, while this particular article is focusing specifically on starting a Mom blog, the tips found here can be used to start a blog really in any niche. I have been getting a ton of questions specifically about starting a mom blog from my audience so that is why mom blogs are the focus of this guide.
Why are Mom Blogs so Popular?
I believe that mom blogs are still so popular today because we live in the digital age where we turn to the internet for EVERYTHING. As a parent myself, I know that parenting comes with a wholeeee lot of questions as we try to figure out if we’re doing this thing “right.”
I also believe that being a parent is such a unique experience and it can just be comforting to connect with other parents whether it be online or in person. That sense of community can be so very helpful.
It’s also important to note that many millennials much like myself grew up with the rise of the internet (and blogs). Now, as parents, we know exactly where to turn when seeking answers.
Is Starting a Blog Worth it?
If you are wondering why you should even start a blog in 2023, well that’s because blogging is still highly relevant! If you have value to add to the market, go ahead and add it. Chances are there are people out there seeking the information that you have to share.
I would also like to point out a few stats to further my point.
- There are nearly 2 BILLION websites in existence, and approximately 600 million of those are blogs. –Growth Badger
- 81% of consumers research online before making a purchase.- GE Capital Retail Banks
- There are over 20 BILLION blog posts viewed on WordPress per month. – Finances Online
- “Blogging is the third most common content strategy.” –Hubspot
Blogging can truly be a great way to connect with your target audience and make an impact while earning some extra money.
How to get started with your blog
Okay, so let’s get to the information that you’ve been looking for. What is the best way to get started with your blog?
Firstly, I HIGHLY recommend taking advantage of a reputable blogging course to help you get up and running – especially if you want to make money with your blog.
An effective course will help you to build a solid foundation for your blogging business. It should also touch on subjects such as market research (a major key in any business) and SMART goal-setting (something that is commonly overlooked and/or minimized for bloggers).
However, I have been blogging for over a decade now and have come across many courses promising big results and only a few that actually deliver. Luckily, I was able to find a course that was very cost-effective and packed with a TON of value for both new bloggers and bloggers like myself who have been at it for a while.
This particular blogging course is called The Blog Method, and I had the pleasure of completing the beta version to see whether or not it was worth the time and money. But don’t worry, I’ll discuss this in more detail below.
Finding the Proper Resources to Help You Build
I would also like to mention that while there are a number of free blogging courses and workshops available on the internet, my experience has been that the information given in those courses can be very limited.
There is no shame in using these free resources. I actually used free information on the internet for the first 2 years of my blogging experience before investing any money in my blogging education. These resources certainly helped me to get up and running but it wasn’t necessarily the most time effective.
When I decided to take blogging seriously and turn it into an actual business, that’s when I knew I had to invest some money into my education.
The Basics of Getting Started
In this section, I will touch briefly on the 5 key areas to focus on if you want to start a blog.
1. Select a niche
Even if you are deciding to create a “mom blog,” it is important to pinpoint what particular areas of parenting you will be focusing on for your blog. For example, Major League Mommy is more of a lifestyle blog focusing on helping moms achieve a well-balanced life.
2. Find a Website Host
You know what you want to write about, now you have to get your blog built out. First things first, you’re going to need a host. There are lots of free blogging platforms that you can use that are NOT self-hosted. However, we are building an actual business here. You need to have a self-hosted blog. Again, this is where a good mentor and/or course will really come in handy. There are so many website hosts to choose from and it can get overwhelming pretty fast without the proper guidance.
3. Select Your Domain
Your domain name is a very important part of your online presence and I highly recommend going with a .com.
4. Build Your Blog Out on WordPress
Serious bloggers should definitely use WordPress (self-hosted) to build out their blogs. Let’s just start there. Go with WordPress, select a theme, and customize it to your liking. There’s lots of other stuff to cover here such as plugins, branding, etc. Gillian (creator of The Blog Method) actually does a really fantastic job breaking this part of the process down in The Blog Method training.
5. Create Your Content
There’s a lot to be said about this part of the process. You don’t want to just throw any ol’ thing up on your blog just for the sake of having content up. Really spend some time learning more about your audience and doing keyword research to find out how you can deliver the most value.
Remember, this is all about delivering VALUE to your target audience. The focus shouldn’t be on how much money you can make. You should be focusing on having a massive impact and the money will flow quite naturally.
How to monetize your blog
In addition to questions about starting a blog, I regularly get questions about how to monetize a blog. Here are 5 of the most common ways to make money as a blogger.
- Affiliate Marketing – earning a commission for every sale made through your custom links.
- Ad Placements- placing banner adverts on your blog and earning a percentage of money for clicks, purchases, etc.
- Sponsored posts- getting paid to post about a brand’s product or service.
- Selling digital products
- Sell your own services
The Blog Method course actually covers blog monetization in great detail which I’ll discuss more below.
The Blog Method Course review
As I mentioned previously, I was able to go through the beta version of a blogging course called The Blog Method. This course was created by an award-winning blog designer named Gillian Sarah and she has helped over 4,000 fellow entrepreneurs build their websites. It’s safe to say that she is an expert in her field.
When it comes to her blogging course, what stood out to me was how extremely robust it was. It contained a TON of information. I am totally blown away by the amount of content that was included at its current price point.
I have taken courses that are twice the amount of this one, and those didn’t cover nearly as much!
The Blog Method isn’t just a simple “get started with blogging” course. This is more of a “create a profitable blogging business” type of course which I absolutely love and is the reason why I wanted to share it with you all.
Gillian will take you from having no blog at all to a fully functioning money-making machine if you follow through with her lessons. She touches on key concepts such as: selecting a host, goal-setting, branding, building out your blog, SEO, monetization and SO much more. She basically holds your hand and walks you through the entire process step-by-step.
In addition to the full training library which includes DOZENS of detailed, yet easy-to-understand lessons, you will also receive the following:
- Exclusive website templates

The Blog Method Cons
- The price point may not work for everyone’s budget, and as of Jan 2023, I do not see an option for a payment plan.
- Doesn’t provide specifics as to why she recommends certain hosts.
Is It Worth the Investment?
I was able to secure a special discount code for Major League Mommy readers. So, if you do decide to sign up for The Blog Method, make sure you use code “BRIANA” to save 10%! I also highly recommend taking advantage of the LIMITED-TIME LAUNCH PRICING while you can.
This blogging course offers a ridiculous amount of value. I say it is ABSOLUTELY worth the investment.
This course will literally take you from having no blog at all to having a fully functioning BLOGGING BUSINESS. If you follow the steps outlined in this course and remain consistent, you can definitely earn back your investment plus so much more!
Of course, results are not guaranteed because you do ultimately have to put in the work, but The Blog Method will help you to build a solid foundation for your blog to set you up for success.
And since you are building an actual business, the cost of the course can be written off during tax season (if you’re in the US- not sure for other countries).
If you are serious about finally getting your blogging business off the ground, I say this is a great starting point!
Should You Seriously Even Start a Mom Blog?
If you have some value to add to the market, then you should definitely just go for it. Even if you’re not starting a mom blog and want to go with another niche, starting a blog is such a low-risk activity so I say it’s worth the leap.
Your dream life can be just a single decision away, and you landed on this blog post for a reason. You can absolutely turn your blog into a fully functioning business with the proper guidance and resources. And you can change so many lives with the content you share. It’s all about investing your time, money, and energy in the right places. But the time to take action is NOW.
With over 77% of internet users reporting that they read blogs and over 61% of online users making a purchase after reading a blog, there is no doubt that blogging can still be highly impactful. The question is, how will you choose to leave YOUR mark?
