This coming weekend is Memorial Day Weekend and I’m sure you all have special plans to acknowledge and pay your respect to those who lost their lives serving our country. Memorial Day Family BBQ or picnic– Have a backyard barbecue or get the family together at your favorite park to grill up some hot dogs and hamburgers and enjoy some tasty snacks.

Try some Patriotic Crafts-Get together as a family and construct your own American flag or try one of these fun patriotic crafts!
Attend a Memorial Day Festival or Parade- There are typically a number of local festivals and Memorial Day Parades taking place during Memorial Day Weekend. Attending one of these events with the family is a great way to acknowledge the holiday. Check out your local news websites, social media pages, or papers to find an event near you.
Volunteer your time to support our veterans- There are a number of military volunteer opportunities out there. You can click here to find out how you can help.
Plant a garden– in memory of those who loss their lives, plant a garden of colorful flowers of your choice.
Visit a national cemetery- Teach the kids about Memorial Day while visiting a national cemetery and placing flowers on the gravestones of veterans.
Get the family together to make a yummy “Red, White, and Blue” dessert!- Make a delicious American flag cake or red, white, and blue yogurt parfaits or try one of these American themed desserts!
Have family story time featuring kid-friendly books on Memorial Day- a good way to teach young children in your family about Memorial Day. Check out books such as A Memorial Day Memory: Memorial Day Picture Book for Children and Memorial Day (Let’s Celebrate)
Bring some treats to your local Veteran’s hospital- Bake some cookies or another special treat and deliver them to your local veteran’s hospital.
Prepare a special dinner for friends that are currently serving in our military- Do you have friends or family that are currently serving in the military? Make them a delicious dinner that includes many of their favorite foods. What a great way to say thank you for their service to our country!
