Ever wonder who founded Father’s Day? Well, here you go!
Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane, Washington is credited as the inventor of Father’s Day. Dodd wanted to create an official equivalent to Mother’s Day for all of the male parents. She utilized churches, government officials, and the YMCA to successfully gain support for her idea.
Washington State celebrated the country’s first Father’s Day on July 19,1910. The holiday began to spread from there. It wasn’t until 1966 that Father’s Day was officially declared to take place the third Sunday of June by President Lyndon Johnson.
